Great way to meet NYS Learning Standards, and get a jump start on the “Dignity for All Students Act” that
takes effect July 1st, 2012.
The Arc of Delaware County and Beta Omicron Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma
DETAILS
1) The Arc of Delaware County (Delarc), an
organization that supports people with disabilities, and Delta Kappa Gamma,
an organization of women educators, are pleased to be co-sponsoring a contest
for elementary and middle school students
(grades K-8) for the 2nd
year.
2) The theme of this year’s contest is “Everybody Can”. Students will
focus on the abilities of people with disabilities, and
communicate through
their entry how ‘everybody can’. Entries can be submitted in any format (i.e.
essay, poem, poster, video,
biography of person w/ disability, book report,
PowerPoint presentation, etc.).
3) The contest will be open to all Delaware County elementary and middle schools. Entries for Grades K-4
will only be accepted
from ‘class projects’ (completed by the class as a
whole). Entries for Grades 5-8 will be accepted from individual
students, small
groups of students, or class projects.
4) Generous monetary prizes of $150, $100, and $50
for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively, will
be awarded in each school.
The top 3 entries will be sent to The Arc of
Delaware County for recognition and entry in a County-wide contest (grades K-4
not eligible for county-wide prizes), which consists of a Grand Prize of
$500 or a laptop computer, and scholarships to
participate in The Arc of
Delaware County’s “Share, Learn, Grow Mentorship Program” (designed for grades
5-8); a video of
the “Share, Learn, Grow…” program will be included in the Contest
Packet.
