Library News- Joan M. Joedicke, Librarian
South Kortright students grades K-4 are bringing home "BAGS OF BOOKS" and enjoying reading the many books. The students can keep the books in their homes to read for a month. When they have finished reading the books, they should bring them back to school and put them in boxes in their classrooms. The National Junior Honor Society and the National Honor Society members will check in the books as service project.
Students working on research projects are using the databases which are provided by New York State's NOVEL initiative. Papers have been distributed to all teachers listing the different databases with user names and passwords. Students and faculty may also go to the SKCS website and look under library resources.
Grade 5 is getting ready for their big library final exam. We have read several short stories, plays, and poems and reviewed library skills. Students use OPAC to find books and are proficient finding them on the shelves.
The library received a generous grant from the Dean Graham Foundation, which I used to buy science books for the elementary and high school libraries. Mrs. Kline and Mr. Zaionz gave me a list of books that they would like to see in the library for their students. Many are already on the shelves.
This message is for all community members. I am looking for photographs of Susan and Andrew Lyon who used to live and work in Bloomville. They were very kind generous people who liked children and wanted to help them with scholarship money for college. Many of our SKCS graduates have been recipients of their generosity. Our National Honor Society Chapter is named after them. If any one has photographs of Susan and Andrew I would like to borrow them for a short period of time and will return them to the owner. Thanking you in advance for your help!!!! You may call me at home or at school.
I would like to thank some wonderful generous people for all they do for our libraries. These people have been most kind with their gifts and all of them have been appreciated. A BIG THANK YOU TO THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE:
Nancy Gallup, Fred and Celin Shoen, Betty and Ken Coats, Pam Thompson, Janet Pittelli, Geoffery Garrett and his family, Jordan Nichols and her family, Frankie Boest and her family and anyone else I ma have missed.
