SHARED DECISION MAKING South Kortright Central School will be re-establishing the Shared Decision Making Committee. Shared Decision Making is a process by which all members of the South Kortright Central School education community, at the district and school levels, collaborate in identifying educational issues, defining goals, formulating policy, and implementing and assessing activities in order to make recommendations to the superintendent. The goal of this process is to help students reach standards of excellence. Membership: The Committee consists of 12 volunteer-member representatives of the various stakeholders listed below and an elected chairperson. Members devote time to the work of the full Committee or any subcommittee. Membership representatives include 2 voting members per stakeholder group: 2 members of the Board of Education 2 teachers 2 community representatives 2 student representatives (chosen via application and teacher recommendation process) 2 administrators 2 support staff Volunteers and visitors are always welcome at meetings. They should be put on the agenda ahead of time. All members are volunteers. There is no stipend for these positions. Membership qualifications include: A demonstrated capacity and willingness to pursue consensus both within the committee and the members’ respective groups. A reputation for being an individual of good will. A demonstrated interest in the growth, evaluation, and improvement of the educational program at the South Kortright Central School. Decisions by the Committee are made by either majority or consensus vote. The committee determines its own decision-making and operational procedures.
